BLOOD LIBEL (2005)
video installation

In 2005, Lee was invited, by Madrid-based curator Javier Duero, to perform at the Principe Felipe Museum of Science in Valencia, Spain. Lee made a performance “In memory of all those crucified at the hands of Christianity”, in which he explored Spanish notions of “sacrilege”. As a backdrop to the performance, his film “Blood Libel” was screened. The film presents the artist, dressed as a hasidic Jew, drinking the blood of Christian children. This references the attempted prosecution of Lee’s relative Menahem Mendel Beilis in 1913 by the authorities in Minsk for drinking the blood of Christian children.
